TRACY, Calif.— Heavy rainfall for the Reds softball team didn’t let down their tournament. The Reds were originally scheduled to have a tournament on Thursday at Legacy Fields in Tracy but weather conditions delayed their game until Saturday night.

The Reds went 0-2 in the tournament, bringing their overall record to 2-9-1 for the season and ranking 7th in the SAL league with a 0-4 record. girls

“Compared to last time we played them there was more defense. I had all my girls this time, we did good. Our pitching came around, our hitting started coming around and competed,” said head coach Yolanda Gallichio.

The Reds had their first match against the Mariposa Grizzlies on Saturday night, falling to the Grizzles 5-3. The performance was an improvement over their last match on March 26, which ended with a score of 12-2.

“They got to believe in themselves,” said Gallichio. “They make mistakes and just keep moving on from it. But we want some wins now.”

Mistakes cost them their victory. The Red missed a few infielders that cost precious time in throwing to first base for an out. During the fourth inning the Reds on defense ran into a bases loaded situation. A missed fly ball would bring the final runner in.

“I’m very proud of how we did today and everything. It was much better compared to what was the last time that we played them,” said Gallichio.

In the Reds second game of the night they lost 13-0 to San Joaquin Athletic Association’s Bear Creek of Stockton, ending their Legacy Fields tournament record at 0-2.

This week the Reds take on Denair High School, at Gustine, starting at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Then on Thursday, the Reds will face SAL league opponent Waterford High School, at Gustine, at 4 p.m.
