Reds softball loses two games
sports

The Gustine Reds’ softball team took two losses over the last week, losing to the Mariposa County Grizzlies on Wednesday and falling to the Denair Coyotes on Friday.

The Reds took their fourth straight loss on Wednesday when they were bested by the Grizzlies 17-2, dropping their record to 2-5.

Mariposa came out of the first inning with three runs to Gustine’s one run. And that was just a warm-up for what was to come. The Grizzlies tallied six unanswered runs in the second inning and eight in the fourth. The last time Gustine saw a runner cross homebase was in the third inning.

Leaving the game on Wednesday, Gustine had given up an average of 13 runs per game this season.

Gustine fell victim to Denair and their airtight pitching crew on Friday in Denair. They lost 11-0 to the Coyotes. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Gustine dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Gustine will head out to square off against Delhi at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Delhi has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.29 runs per game on average), something Gustine will no doubt try to capitalize on.
