Although the Orestimba track and field teams fell to Hilmar at Wednesday’s Trans-Valley League dual by a few lopsided scores, they received a handful of stellar individual performances.
The Warriors won 10 of the 32 events, dropping the boys’ team competition by a 97-39 score while the girls lost 104-28. The duo of Ilja Skocek and Samantha De La Cruz each nabbed multiple wins on the afternoon.
Skocek had two wins to contribute to the boys’ standings. The junior ran the 200-meter dash in 24.75 seconds to take the top spot, then claimed the 400-meter race with a time of 57.63 seconds.
On the girls’ side, De La Cruz claimed a pair of distance runs. First, the sophomore won the 800-meter with a time of 2 minutes, 32.56 seconds. She took home the 1600-meter dash with a time of 5 minutes, 32.92 seconds. She was also a member of the 4x400 relay team (alongside Mariah Moreno, Imelda Beltran-Pelayo and Marian Quevedo) that claimed victory in 4 minutes, 35.09 seconds.
In the boys’ 800-meter dash, sophomore Joseph Garcia continued Orestimba’s dominance in the longer distance races, winning his race in 2 minutes, 31.42 seconds.
The Warriors also claimed a pair of jumping competitions. Senior Dylan McCauley was victorious in the boys’ long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 3 inches. Junior Maddie Perez, meanwhile won the girls’ triple jump with a personal best leap of 31 feet, 1.5 inches.
In the boys' discus, junior Traveyon Wright Jr. was victorious with a throw of 105 feet, 5.25 inches.
TVL competition will continue Wednesday for the Warriors when they go on the road again to face off with Ripon and Ripon Christian at Ripon High School.
