Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Orestimba). They blew past the Escalon Cougars 9-1 on Feb. 10.

Alfredo Figueroa was a massive factor in the win as he booted in five goals all by himself.

Orestimba's lineup was just a bit different as Reyli Barrios got a bit more time on the pitch (30 vs. his season average of 18.3). Barrios made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal and one assist

Orestimba's victory bumped their record up to 9-11-3. As for Escalon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12-6.

Orestimba takes a loss in playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Orestimba can now relate to. They fell 2-0 to the Placer Hillmen on Friday.

While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 676th, while the Hillmen are ranked 280th).

Orestimba's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Placer, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Gustine girls’ basketball falls to Le Grand

The Gustine Reds girls’ basketball took a tough loss at the hands of Le Grand, losing the Feb. 13 game 64-12. On Feb. 11, the squad handed Denair a loss 51-41.

Gustine had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Denair Coyotes by a score of 51-41. This was a revenge game for the Reds: when they faced off against the Coyotes back in January, they had to take a 60-18 loss.

Gustine's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-14. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points over those games.
