Gustine softball splits games with Weston Ranch

Gustine put the hurt on the Weston Ranch Cougars with a sharp 18-6 win on Feb. 19, but their luck changed this time around. The Gustine Reds came up short against the Weston Ranch Cougars on Feb. 27, falling 17-7.

Gustine now has a losing record of 2-3.

In the Feb. 19 game, Shandel Aguilera was a standout: she went a perfect5-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xel-Ha Pantoja, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, six RBI, and four runs.

Gustine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weston Ranch only posted an OBP of .393.

Coming up, Gustine will head out on the road to face off against Hilmar at 3:30 p.m. on March 7.

 

Orestimba baseball loses to Le Grand

Orestimba lost against Le Grand last Wednesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Orestimba Warriors fell 11-7 to the Le Grand Bulldogs. The Warriors have now endured four defeats in a row.

Donovan Torres made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ray Montes, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Orestimba's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Le Grand, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Orestimba will host Summerville at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Orestimba has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season. Orestimba might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Summerville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Summerville has dropped their last three games.

 

Orestimba boys’ volleyball comes up short against Modesto Panthers

Orestimba was not able to break out of their rough patch on Feb. 24 as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 3-1 to the Modesto Panthers. The Warriors were not able to make up for their loss to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in March of 2023.

While Orestimba had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 17-25, 25-19, 25-18.

Orestimba's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Modesto, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-2.

Orestimba will venture away from home to square off against Pacheco at 6:35 p.m. on March 4.
