Warrior softball squad falls to Ripon
Orestimba looks to snap losing streak in Hughson game
sports

Orestimba was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ripon Indians. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Orestimba saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlin Barron, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That double was Barron's first of the season.

Orestimba's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Ripon, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.

The Orestimba Warriors will challenge the Hughson Huskies at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Orestimba has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Hughson will come in with three straight victories.

Hughson posted their closest win since April 26, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-13 victory over Big Valley Christian.

Kylie Tangney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and eight unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Leanne Lopez was a standout: she scored three runs while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Collins, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Hughson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Hughson pushed their record up to 6-4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games.

Orestimba took their victory against Hughson in their previous meeting back in April of 2021 by a conclusive 13-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orestimba since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around.
