Warriors flag football on a roll
SPORTS

The Orestimba Warriors flag football team returned home in style Wednesday evening, taking on the Sonora Wildcats after a two-game road stretch. The Warriors showed no signs of slowing down, extending their impressive run with a commanding 48-13 victory.
Coming off a season-high performance on Monday, where they shut out Ripon 48-0 on the road, Orestimba continued to display their offensive firepower. The team has consistently put up big numbers, scoring 31 points or more in their last five games, and Wednesday’s showdown was no exception. With eight victories this season by 20 points or more, the Warriors have proven to be a formidable force.
Orestimba’s defense shined earlier this week, especially the secondary, with Madelyn Perez, Marian Quevedo, Imelda Beltran-Pelayo, and Beltran-Pelayo each snagging an interception against Ripon. Their defensive prowess set the stage for Wednesday’s game, where the Warriors once again executed a complete team effort.
Against the Wildcats, Maya Barajas led the defensive charge with a game-high ten tackles, showcasing her tenacity and field awareness. On the offensive side, Salece Machado was the team's top receiver with seven catches, but it was Imelda Beltran-Pelayo who made the most of her opportunities, racking up 80 receiving yards to lead the team. Quarterback Hailey Starr was on fire, passing for a remarkable 305 yards, orchestrating the offense with precision and poise.

As of Sept. 27, the Warriors were 13-4 overall and 2-0 in league. They were scheduled to play travel to pay Escalon (6-8) on Monday. The Warriors will return home on Thursday to host Hilmar at 7:30 p.m.
